Opening campaign begins for the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg

A few weeks from now, Hamburg will have a new watermark. Starting 26 June 2008, the International Maritime Museum (IMMH) will present the world’s largest private maritime collection in the newly remodeled Kaispeicher B, Hamburg’s oldest remaining storage structure. The opening campaign was developed by Johanssen + Kretschmer and MetaDesign. The first images with the slogan “Hamburg has a new watermark” have appeared recently.

Other images are set to follow this initial teaser campaign. The headline “Journey to the horizon” has been coined to pique interest in the new maritime museum in the heart of Hamburg’s Hafencity. MetaDesign also developed a logo for the campaign showing the signal for the IMMH in the international flag alphabet.

At 7 pm on 22 May, collector and sponsor Peter Tamm will present the content and architectural concept of the exhibition in the Representative Offices of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in Berlin (Landesvertretung Hamburg, Jägerstrasse 1-3, 10117 Berlin). The grand opening celebration will then take place on 25 June, with President Horst Köhler in attendance. Johannssen + Kretschmer are responsible for the planning and organization of the grand opening event.

The International Maritime Museum Hamburg tells the story of maritime navigation in an international context. Countless exhibits on ten decks (stories) show the fascinating world of travel by sea and invite the viewer on a journey through three thousand years of history.
