The clearly defined visual identity of the German federal government and its ministries not only presents these institutions as a single entity, but illustrates their strengths and fosters trust. The development of a common identity was largely a democratic process since the individual departments are free to communicate as they please and generally strive for visual individuality.
The individual elements in the system, such as the federal eagle, have evolved historically and are highly symbolic. For this reason, a high level of process and control expertise – as well as integrative talent – was crucial in developing and implementing the corporate design program.
Since 1996, MetaDesign has served as a strategic consultant, overseeing the process and designing integrative design solutions. In addition to optimizing the shared visual framework, which gives the ministries sufficient creative freedoms for their specific requirements, MetaDesign has introduced tools that have facilitated the cross-departmental acceptance and consistent application of corporate design.
